OUR HISTORY
The Copperbelt Agricultural and
Commercial Show Society, situated in
Kitwe Zambia have been in existence
since 1956. The Society run by a board
of voluntary directors, employ a manager
and other administrative staff to
oversee the day to day running of the
showground’s.
The main operation of the show Society
is to host an annual exhibition/show
which enables companies to promote their
products and services to the community
of the Copperbelt, as well as other
visitors from within Zambia and
neighbouring countries.
At its inception the Copperbelt Show was
predominately an agricultural show where
farmers exhibited their animals. Over
the years it grew, incorporating the
commercial industries with entertainment
on offer for the general public.
In 1996 the directors believed an
additional show should be held for
mining and engineering. The ball was set
in motion and in May of 1997, Zaminex
was formed. This proved to be a huge
success with many companies supporting
this Exhibition. In the following years
Zaminex (the mining exhibition) was held
at the beginning of May with the
traditional Agricultural and Commercial
show, being held at the end of May.
Our Recent Past
The two separate exhibitions were
combined to form CMACS, (Copperbelt
Mining, Agricultural and Commercial
Show) in the year 2000. This became
necessary as the costs for some
companies who chose to exhibit at both
was excessive. In addition to the high
costs for the exhibitor it was an
extremely difficult time for the show
organisers as well as getting visitors
to attend both shows.
Today CMACS is held annually at the end
of May, with numbers increasing year by
year for both visitors as well as
exhibitors. The exhibition continues to
have the full support of the Ministry of
Mines and Natural Resources as well as
the Ministry of Agriculture & Livestock.
Foreign exhibitor numbers are ever
increasing with the continued support
from The Department of Trade and
Industry South Africa.
